Why isn’t Rodrigo De Paul playing for Argentina against England in the World Cup semifinal?
The Inter Miami midfielder was not included in Scaloni’s XI for the game.
Lionel Scaloni’s big question ahead of the World Cup semi-final game against England was supposed to be whether or not he’d choose Julián Álvarez or Lautaro Martínez to partner Lionel Messi up front.
So when he dropped Rodrigo De Paul from the starting lineup to fit in Giuliano Simeone, more than a few pairs of eyebrows were raised.
At the time of writing, the change looks purely technical; there is no injury to De Paul: Simeone has made a career out of being able to burst down the wing with RPM levels the Tazmanian Devil would be jealous of, and his attacking and defensive output is clearly going to be a key part of Argentina’s gameplan.
Rodrigo De Paul is expected to play a part in the game during the second half.
