Update:

Money and fame get you most things you want in society, but it doesn’t get you to the top of the Championship.

Playing in England’s second division is like running through a forest of dense brush endlessly clawing at your arms.

Nobody sane would invent the Championship; it is a notoriously unforgiving corner of existence thrown up by the infinite calculations and permutations brought to life by the Universe’s clearly sick and twisted mind.

Wrexham’s owners are finding that out. Despite the documentaries, the international fanbase, the newspaper attention, and TikTok trends, one does not hop, skip, and jump out of the Championship.

Christoph Klarer’s goal followed Carlos Vicente’s and Wrexham did not strike back; a 2-0 home win for Birmingham, who were also promoted from League One last season, saw them consolidate their position in mid-table while Wrexham’s gap to the playoffs grew larger.

They now sit in 7th place on 64 points, 4 behind Hull City who occupy the final place in the post-season final four. Breathing down their necks are Derby County, just a point behind the Welsh club.

There are just four games to go, and Wrexham need as many points to swing in their favour as the season drives to a dramatic conclusion.
