Inter Miami have work to do ahead of the 2025 MLS season with the news that head coach Gerardo Martino is stepping down. The official announcement of the Argentine coach’s farewell is about to be officially confirmed in the next few hours.

Amidst this surprising news, some names have begun to emerge as possible options to take over as the new coach of Inter Miami, among them Xavi and Javier Mascherano, who were both seen as strong candidates.

However, this Thursday it was announced that the former Barcelona coach’s plans do not include going to the United States and coaching Inter Miami in the MLS for the moment, as announced by journalist Guillem Balague.

The Spanish journalist revealed that Xavi’s current plans include continuing his sabbatical year and then returning to coaching at club level somewhere in Europe.

One of the goals that Xavi has in mind is to land in the Premier League and experience the challenge that comes with what is considered the most competitive league in the so-called top five competitions of the old continent.

Inter Miami is looking in a different direction

With Xavi now ruled out as an option for Inter Miami, the club will look at the list of possibilities to take over as the new coach. Guillem Balague himself even revealed that the club is considering other types of profiles to take the reins of the team once Gerardo Martino’s departure is confirmed.

Inter Miami will make Martino’s departure official this Friday at a press conference and from there the search will begin to make a new coach official by the end of the year.

The plan is to try to start the preseason in a timely manner and prepare for what will be a year of great challenges for the institution that in 2025 will face competitions such as MLS, the Club World Cup and the Leagues Cup, among others.
