Xavi: Sergiño Dest will remain at Barcelona
The US international has been linked with a move away from the Liga giants this summer but Xavi praised his performance in the 2-2 draw against Juventus.
Sergiño Dest’s future at FC Barcelona has been up in the air since Xavi Hernández took over the managerial job last season. The United States international, whose current contract runs until 2025, has made it clear that he wants to stay and make history with the La Liga giants and that he would like to play at Camp Nou for many years.
The 21-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United this summer to reunite with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, but no formal offer has been announced by either side. Dest was included in Xavi’s for the pre-season tour of the United States and he has seen game time in the first three friendlies Barça have played.
Xavi praises Dest
Dest started the first exhibition match against Inter Miami and then came on as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Real Madrid and the 2-2 draw against Juventus. After the match against the Italian side, Xavi was asked about Dest’s future amid rumors of a possible exit and the Barcelona manager praised his pre-season form
“Dest? He’s fast and defends well. He’s a good player, still young and important for the future,” said Xavi during the post-game press conference held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Tuesday night.
