Sergiño Dest didn’t start in ‘El Clásico’ against Real Madrid at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada in their first pre-season match of their United States tour. Barça defeated Madrid 1-0 with a solo goal from Raphinha and Dest appearing as a substitute in the 62nd minute of the match replacing Ronaldo Araujo.

The United States international is aware that he has not gained the full trust of manager Xavi Hernández and the club is willing to part ways with him during the summer transfer window. Barcelona needs to sell players and Dest could be the first one to leave Camp Nou before the season starts.

Dest could reunite with Ten Hag

After Saturday’s ‘Clásico’ it was reported that Manchester United is keen on signing Sergiño Dest and negotiations could start as early as next week. The United States international wants more playing time because the World Cup is around the corner and the Red Devils’ newly appointed manager, Erik Ten Hag, wants to be reunited with the American.

Ten Hag wants to improve Manchester’s defence after allowing 57 goals last season and he believes that Dest is the right man for the job. There is also a lack of options on United’s right with Aaron Wan-Bissaka struggling to consolidate that position and Diogo Dalot has not convinced Ten Hag.

Ten Hag coached Sergiño Dest for one whole season before leaving Ajax to join Barcelona in 2020. Manchester United will have to pay close to £17 million to the La Liga side to sign the 21-year-old, which would be nearly £7 million less than they bought him for, but it will bring some money to the team that is facing a financial crisis.
