Zinedine Zidane will not replace Mauricio Pochettino at PSG

The former Madrid manager was part of the negotiating strategy used by PSG president Al-Khelaïfi to convince Mbappé to renew his contract.

According to Telefoot in France, Zinedine Zidane will not be replacing Mauricio Pochettino as Paris Saint-Germain’s next manager.

The Argentine coach is set to leave the Ligue 1 champions and Zidane has been linked with a move to the French club. The 49-year-old’s priority is to coach the French national team after this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

The former Real Madrid manager was reportedly part of the negotiating strategy used by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi to convince Kylian Mbappé to renew his contract, but Zidane is not expected to be in the PSG dugout in 2022/23.

PSG sporting director Leonardo was told on Saturday that he will be leaving the club this summer. Former Lille sporting director Luis Campos is the favourite to replace the Brazilian at PSG.

Among the list of candidates to replace Pochettino are Joachim Löw, Christophe Galtier, Roberto Martínez, Antonio Conte, Thiago Motta and Julen Lopetegui.

Direct contact between the Emir of Qatar and Zidane

Contrary to Telefoot’s report, French media outlet RMC Sport has reported that the Emir of Qatar is in direct contact with Zidane and although a deal is still a long way off, the former France international has not said no.

There are growing doubts about Didier Deschamps’ departure from the France national team, meaning Zidane is still open to listening to what PSG are proposing.
