The U.S. players spoke about the mass shooting that occurred in Auckland just ahead of the start of the Women’s World Cup.

On Wednesday, a tragic event occurred in Auckland, New Zealand just ahead of the Women’s World Cup being held there. A mass shooting resulted in the death of two people and several others injured. The tournament is going on as planned, but the players are shaken. Unfortunately, the Americans are all too familiar with tragedies such as these and the players spoke about it at a press conference, offering condolences to the victims and all involved.

“Unfortunately, I feel like in the U.S., we’ve dealt with this far too many times,” said USWNT’s Lynn Williams. “But there was definitely a sense of, let’s come together, we still have a job to do. But also recognizing that there were lives lost, and that is very real and very devastating.”
