Bale says Messi will enjoy MLS because “there’s no consequence for losing”

Gareth Bale won the MLS Cup with LAFC last season and says Lionel Messi will enjoy his time there because it’s “a lot more chilled”.

Update:

Gareth Bale played 13 games for LAFC in the MLS last season, helping them to win the MLS Cup. Upon the news that Lionel Messi will join the American league now, too, Bale was asked if he thought Messi would enjoy playing soccer across the pond. Bale’s answer was an interesting slight dig at the league, making it sound more like a place you go to just relax after your career is over.

“It’s a lot more chilled. Like, if you lose at Real Madrid, it’s like the world’s ended. You’re crucified, you feel down, you go home, you’re not happy,” said Bale. “As with them, they kind of accept losing a bit more, I think. There’s no consequence - you can’t get relegated...you just lose a game, you go on to the next one.”

Messi is set to make his debut for Inter Miami on July 21. Miami is currently last in the Eastern Conference and fired coach Phil Neville just before the Messi move was announced - a move which will surely help them jump back up in the standings. Messi is expected to sign a two-year, multi-million-dollar contract with Miami.
