TAIWAN EARTHQUAKE
Dashcam footage shows terrifying moment car gets smashed by boulder in Taiwan
A car’s dashcam footage showed several vehicles desperately backing away as a landslide occurred, with one gigantic boulder smashing a car on the road.
Over 300 aftershocks have been occurred in Taiwan since the 7.4 magnitude earthquake first hit the island nation on Wednesday, causing further destruction and making rescue efforts even more difficult. Nearly 700 people are still trapped or missing. So far, we know that nearly 1,070 people have been injured in the earthquake.
In this terrifying video, cars can be seen quickly stopping and reversing in a panic on the road in an attempt to avoid the landslide crashing down the side of the mountain next to the road. One driver’s dashcam caught the horrific moment one car didn’t manage to avoid it, and was smashed by a huge boulder, pushing the vehicle against a wall. The incident occurred in the Hualien Province.
Authorities are urging people to stay away from the mountains due to the risk of falling rocks as well as the formation of “barrier lakes”, as water has gathered up behind loose debris.
