Djokovic sends best wishes to Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz lost in four sets to Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros on Friday after suffering severe cramps, and Djokovic had these kind words to say.

The much-anticipated semifinals match between two of tennis’ best players at Roland Garros this Friday delivered. World No. 1, 20-year-old Carlos Alvaraz, played an intense back-and-forth on the clay against 22-time Grand Slam winner, 36-year-old Novak Djokovic. Unfortunately, that match was marred towards the end when Alcaraz suffered a severe cramp.

Alcaraz eventually fell in four sets with Djokovic winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. Before the cramps started, the match was quite even. Once the cramps started, it was obvious Alcaraz was suffering. When it was over, Djokovic sent his best wishes, sympathies, and understanding to the young and talented Alcaraz.

“I told him at the net, he knows how young he is, he has plenty of time ahead of him, he’s going to win this tournament, I’m sure, many many times,” said Djokovic. “He’s an unbelievable player and an incredible competitor, very nice guy, he deserves all the applause and all the support.”

“Congratulations to him for the fighting spirit and hanging in right to the last point, respect for that. Great respect. I hope he comes back very quickly.”
