Mahomes’ family more excited for Rihanna than Super Bowl

Everyone is hyped about the Super Bowl halftime show this year, including Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who unfortunately won’t be able to watch it.

The Super Bowl is finally upon us this Sunday! The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are the stars of the show...for some. For others, it’s halftime performer Rihanna.

The hype is real surrounding the Grammy-winning pop star. Rihanna is back on the stage after a five-year hiatus from performing and everyone is excited to watch her, including Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his family.

Mahomes’ family more excited about Rihanna than Super Bowl game

Mahomes let his excitement be known about Rihanna performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, but unfortunately for him, he won’t be able to actually watch it.

“Rihanna is gonna be great, so I’m perfect with the way Rihanna doing it. I’m not gonna be able to watch it, but a lot of my family members are super excited for Rihanna to go out there,” said Mahomes on Super Bowl opening night. “I think they are more excited for that than the Super Bowl for a couple of them. It’ll be a great show.”

Yes, Chiefs coach Andy Reid has warned the players to stay focused during halftime, when Mahomes and his teammates will be, not watching Rihanna, but inside the locker room making adjustments to their play against the tough Philadelphia Eagles.

“I’m not going out there at all,” said Mahomes. “Coach Reid said if we go out there, to just keep on walking, so I’ll make sure that I’m not out there.”

The Chiefs made it this far - they may as well stay focused, right? On Sunday, the main point will be for them to win their third Super Bowl championship and second in the Mahomes era. They won it in 2020 against the 49ers but lost in 2021 to the Buccaneers. They have a challenge ahead of them in 2023 against Jalen Hurts’ Eagles. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. ET this Sunday, February 12 at State Farm Stadium!
