PSG’s strange request gives them Champions League advantage

Paris Saint Germain may have just been given a huge leg up in terms of their trophy challenges for the season after their request for their Ligue 1 game to be postponed was approved.

The Ligue 1 board have decided to honour their petition to move the game against RC Lens to May, giving PSG more time to recover ahead of their Champions League second leg game against Liverpool.

However, the controversy comes as Lens sit just a few points away from PSG in the table, and the northern French club have called the request ‘unsportsmanlike’ as a quirk in the schedule means they will not have played a game for 15 days by the time the league fixture finally comes round.

Lens’ title challenge against PSG just got a lot more difficult, and while PSG’s progression would aid the league in terms of UEFA coefficients, many are seeing this as an unfair advantage for a team more than capable of fighting on multiple fronts.
