Mexico national team goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa may be thousands of miles from home, but supporters of Serie A team Salernitana have taken him to as if he were one of their own. The former Club América stopper has become a huge fan favourite since moving to after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, winning the team’s Player of the Season award as he helped them comfortably avoid relegation.

Supporters have paid tribute to their idol by opening a fan club dedicated to the 38-year-old, who was invited along for its inauguration.
