Wemby: “There’s no excuses”

Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs were defeated 146-110 by the Pelicans on Sunday and Wemby said that having the youngest roster is no excuse for playing poorly.

On Sunday, the San Antonio Spurs suffered a 146-110 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, marking the fourth time this season that they have lost by 36 points or more. The Pelicans set a record with 22 three-pointers against the Spurs. After snapping their 18-game losing streak (a franchise record), the Spurs are now just 2-19 since November 1 and 4-20 overall.

San Antonio’s rookie Victor Wembanyama was one of the bright spots, finishing with 17 points and 13 rebounds, including his eighth double-double on the season. At 19 years old, Wemby is the youngest player on the Spurs team and they also have the youngest team in the league. But Wemby himself said that’s no excuse for how they’ve been playing lately.

“It might explain it, but it doesn’t mean it’s okay,” he said. “We’re not trying to find any excuses. Any team’s goal is to try to be consistent. We’re underway, but there’s no excuses.”
