What is the longest losing streak in an NBA season? Could the Pistons break it?

The Detroit Pistons are the worst team in the league so far and they could go down in the history books if they keep losing games.

Update:
The Detroit Pistons are the worst team in the league so far and they could go down in the history books if they keep losing games.

The Detroit Pistons weren’t on the list of candidates for the title, and they probably weren’t regarded as a potential playoff team, but reality has proven to be way tougher than that.

The three-time NBA champions finished last season’s tournament as the worst side in the entire league, with only 17 wins and 65 losses.

Many fans believed things would start to get better this campaign, but Monty Williams hasn’t been able to change the team’s bad dynamics and Detroit are in an embarrassing situation.

They are sitting bottom in the Eastern Conference, holding a 2-21 record, which means that at this stage of the competition, their numbers are even worse than those they registered last season.

Detroit could record the longest losing streak in NBA history

The Pistons urgently need to start winning games if they don’t want to be the worst team in the league again, but as of now, that seems too much of an ask.

They haven’t been able to emerge victorious in any of their last 20 games since they defeated the Chicago Bulls (118-102) back in October. They are the ninth team in NBA history to lose 20 straight matches within a season.

If things don’t change for the Pistons soon, they could make history in the NBA, but not for any good reasons. If they lose their next seven clashes, they will break the Cleveland Cavaliers (2010-11) and the Philadelphia 76ers’ (2013-14) record for the longest losing streak ever registered in the NBA in a single campaign, with 26 consecutive lost matches.

The Sixers, though, recorded an even more incredible record after that, as they suffered 28 straight losses, although it was across the 2014-15 and 2015-16 terms.

The Pistons could break their negative streak, oddly enough, against the 76ers, who will be their next opponents at Little Caesars Arena.
