Born in Dundee, Scotland in 1984, Roddy grew up in the nearby town of Brechin, where his love of all things sport began, spending many an evening (when the weather allowed it) playing football (soccer) and golf in particular (not especially well). After completing a degree in translation, he became an English tutor in various multinationals based in Madrid but always had the bug for sports writing and content creation. Roddy ran his own soccer-based YouTube channel and related podcast before joining Diario AS as a journalist in 2022. He mainly covers soccer, aiming to bring readers the inside insight into what’s going on around Europe’s top clubs, as well as Liga MX and MLS. He’s also partial to covering a live game or two in a not-too-serious tone and enjoys having the chance to mix things up by dipping into the worlds of American sports (NBA, NFL and MLB) when that’s where they story is. A language lover (French, Spanish and, bizarrely for a Scot, English), he’ll tell anyone who’ll listen that Dundee United have a 100% winning record against Barcelona in four competitive fixtures.
