Lucas Silva back in the side as Marseille beat minnows Trelissac

After weeks of speculation over the future of Lucas Silva at Marseille, the player, on loan from Real Madrid, took to the pitch for the last 11 minutes of the Ligue 1 side's win over fourth division Trelissac. Marseille had been keen to move the player on, attempting first to return him to Real Madrid, before trying to persuade him to take a new loan deal at Anderlecht, which he refused.

The player was then left out of the squad for the last two games, and wasn't included in the Europa League squad. He was also apparently asked to leave the team bus before a trip to Montpelier, although the player later denied this saying he'd merely been told to stay in Marseille in case he was required to fly at short notice to conclude contract negotiations over any possible winter transfer move.

Tonight though Spanish coach Michel included the Brazilian in his squad, though once again refused to give him a main role in proceedings. That fell instead to Scotland striker Steven Fletcher, who marked his debut for the French outfit after signing on loan from Sunderland by playing the full 90 minutes and scoring the second an Abdelaziz Barrada cross late on.

The Scot had started by teeing up Romain Alessandrini for a fine opening goal in the first half his new side progressed to the quarter-finals despite a battling performance by the tiny outfit from the Dordogne in south-western France who had eliminated Lille on penalties in the last round.
