The 22-year old from Huelva needed one hour and 28 minutes to take a hard-fought victory over the world number fifteen in a very even match. Although the first set went to Marín (25-23), the second saw the South Korean hold firm even with Carolina on the pont of closing the match off.

But in the third and final set Marin reacted well and secured her place in the next round of the knockout stages where she will face the winner of the duel between the German Karin Schnaase and Indonesian Maria Febe Kusumastut.

Prior to the tournament the Spaniard spoke about her desire to stay on top ahead of the Rio Olympics this coming summer.
