All to play for next week at the Bernabéu (Wednesday 4 May, 20.45 CEST) after Manchester City and Real Madrid played out a 0-0 draw at the Etihad.

Both sides struggled to find a decent rhythm for much of the match, but as the home side tired Zidane's men began to take the upper hand for the final spell, though City too had dangerous breaks.

The best chance of the match fell to Pepe who could only blast at Hart from six yards out after he was left unmarked at a corner.

Here's how we saw it:

Full time! It ends 0-0 in the Etihad.

Min 92 | De Bruyne whips in the free kick and Navas tips it over. Corner to City...

Min 92 | Carvajal brings down De Bruyne and goes in the book for his efforts. The Belgian had the better of him and a clean run on goal.

Min 90 | Jesé gets ino the box but his touch lets him down and Sagna does the rest.

Min 88 | And it's Kroos who makes way for Isco. Not much time for the mercurial Málagan to conjure anything mind.

Min 87 | This looks to be heading for a stalemate. Madrid will certainly be the happier of the two sides with that.

Min 85 | Isco is about to come on for Madrid.

Min 83 | The replays show just how quick Hart was to react to that. Pepe really should have scored. It's been all Real in the last 10 minutes or so.

Min 81 | Chance! Bale takes and it's hit well enough but that man Kompany is there to head it behind for a corner. Hart is then called into action from the corner and makes a great save from Pepe, who was right on the keeper's toes, to save City's bacon.

Min 80 | Marcelo wins a free kick right on the edge of the area after some good work from the Brazilian.

Min 78 | Chance! Madrid earn a corner and Casemiro draws a good save out of Hart with a header planted at the City keeper's feet.

Min 76 | Navas goes off to be replaced by Raheem Sterling. The England international's lightning pace might be handy in the last 15 minutes.

Min 74 | Bale skips past Kompany and manages to get a shot off, but it curls just wide of the post.

Min 72 | The game is opening up a bit now. Modric gets forward and chances his arm -- the Croatian does do a good line in the spectacular -- but his shot is well over.

Min 70 | Chance! and there haven't been many. Vázquez buys a yard on the right and stands up a cross for Jesé, whose looping header clears Hart's reach but lands on top of the crossbar.

Min 67 | City play a short corner and De Bruyne is able to steal into the box but his low cross is smothered by Navas.

Min 65 | Bale tries to open up the left flank but is halted by the attention of Jesús Navas. Kroos gets a sight of goal and has a pop bit with four City players in front of him he pulls it wide of Hart's right post.

Min 62 | Vázquez chases down a ball on the right but is crowded out by Clichy and Kompany. Real haven't really created any danger this evening.

Min 60 | Real enjoy a period of possession around the City area but can't find a way through the home defence.

Min 58 | Agüero almost gets in with a neat touch to lose Carvajal but is penalized for a foul on Navas.

Min 56 | City are pressing intelligently in midfield and Real are forced to play the ball backwards. Pellegrini has set his side up well this evening.

Min 54 | City win a corner but Kompany is penalized again for clambering over Casemiro.

Min 53 | Marcelo gets away down the left and sends in a dangerous cutback but it's cleared. Kompany, who has been a real enforcer tonight, then brings down Jesé. Free-kick. Kroos delivers but City bundle it clear for a corner with a bit of head tennis. Kroos delivers and Ramos heads straight at Hart.

Min 49 | Carvajal starts and ends a move on the Real right, picking up a return ball from Jesé and winning a corner. Kroos doesn't clear the first man though.

Min 47 | Modric releases Bale and the Welshman drives into the area, going down with Otamendi in close quarters. Real appeal, but Bale got tangled in his own legs as much as anything. It would have been a harsh award.

Min 46 | Agüero gets a shot off after being teed up by Fernandinho. Ramos and Pepe should have got to the Argentinean a bit livelier there but Kun fires high from the edge of the area.

Second half!

Jesé is coming on for the second half to replace Benzema. The Frenchman clearly wasn't able to give it full tilt in the first half.

Half time! Manchester City 0 - Real Madrid 0. Neither side have really stamped their authority on the game so far, City have perhaps been slightly more dangerous but Real were starting to find a few cracks in the home side's defence towards the end of the half. The stats say it all really. Three shots in the first half between the teams, just the one on target.

Min 46 | Agüero gets a rare sight of the ball at his feet on the edge of the area, but is called offside.

Min 44 | Pepe, of all people, pops up on the right wing and tees up Benzema, but the Frenchman skies his attempt.

Min 43 | Real spray the ball around City's area but the home side aren't falling for anything the visitors can conjure so far. Otamendi is having a great game keeping Bale under wraps. He's also got by far the finest beard on display this evening.

Min 40 | And Silva does indeed leave the pitch, to applause from Noel Gallagher. Kelechi Iheanancho comes on to replace the Spaniard.

Min 39 | Silva appears to be in a spot of bother after that Bale tangle. It will be bad news for City if El Mago has to go off.

Min 37 | City are happy to patiently build attacks, knocking it from side to side before probing the flanks. The home side haven't tried a lot through the middle this evening, leaving Agüero a little isolated. David Silva goes in the book for bringing Bale down in midfield.

Min 34 | Vázquez gets a hoof in the chest from Big Vince and is off to the touchline for a spot of treatment.

Min 33 | Bale hasn't had much of a chance to get out of second gear yet and Kompany makes sure he doesn't get one there, flattening the Welshman as he was eyeing some green space on City's right. He'll have to the running for Benzema by the looks of things. He doesn't look 100 percent, the Frenchman.

Min 30 | Another loose ball, this time from Casemiro, hands the initiative back to City, who are probing Real's left flank whenever they get the chance.

Min 28 | Carvajal cedes possession ina dangerous area but Real manage to recover. It's pretty even so far as the half hour mark approaches.

Min 26 | Fernandinho hits the floor in a heap after a Ramos challenge, but the Real captain got the ball. Free kick to City anyway. De Bruyne sends it into the box but Pepe gets a good header on it.

Min 24 | Agüero almost finds a yard in the area but Pepe and Navas combine to hack it clear to Ramos, who finished the job. Pepe goes in the book for a thunderous challenge on De Bruyne. The resulting free kick causes a bit of a kerfuffle in the Real area but the whistle for a foul by Kompany.

Min 21 | Lovely feet from Modric, who has brought all his party tricks to Manchester tonight, and a cross is fired in but City clear. The Croatian is giving a recital in midfield but City's defence is holding firm.

Min 20 | Vázquez slips past Kompany and tries to get a shot off but Otamendi is across to thwart the Spaniard.

Min 17 | Two blocks from Marcelo in as many seconds. The Brazilian has not been roaming forward as much as usual so far, obviously under instructions not to allow Jesús Navas a chance to run at him.

Min 16 | De Bruyne is unleashed with a deep ball but Casemiro is across to slide in and deny the Belgian a clean run towards Navas' goal.

Min 15 | The Etihad are in good voice. City, of course, have never lost a Champions League semifinal. Bale is clattered by Clichy protecting the ball in midfield. Good defensive work so far from the Welshman this evening.

Min 13 | Bale does excellently to sling in a cross from the byline after getting the better of Clichy but Benzema takes a swing at fresh air. It was a tricky one.

Min 10 | Casemiro takes an elbow in the face from Fernandinho in midfield but it was accidental. Nasty knock for the Brazilian but he's made of stern stuff and shrugs it off.

Min 9 | Kevin de Bruyne gets his first run at the Real defence and lays it out wide but the resulting cross clears the area.

Min 7 | David Silva is denied a corner and displays his language skills in telling the referee what he thought of the decision.

Min 5 | Sergio Agüero gets a first chance to stretch his legs but Pepe is across quickly to snuff out the danger.

Min 4 | Bale plays Benzema into space with a deft flick and the Frenchman is brought down in midfield. The free-kick comes to nought though and drifts out for a goal kick.

Min 2 | Corner to Real as Kompany nods a Benzema-bound behind. It's cleared though and Bale tries to break down the left but is halted by Otamendi.

Min 1 | We're underway at the Etihad! City happy to stroke it about a bit but Vázquez harries Bacary Sagna and the City defender batters the ball into touch.

The Etihad erupts in a sea of blue and white as the teams emerge from the tunnel. No Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid tonight. Lucas Vázquez has been entrusted with the third spot in attack by Zinedine Zidane.

Teams:

Real Madrid: Navas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Lucas Vázquez, Benzema, Bale

Manchester City: Hart; Sagna, Kompany, Otamendi, Clichy; Fernando, Fernandinho; Navas, Silva, De Bruyne; Agüero

Preview:

Hello and welcome to our live text coverage of tonight's Champions League semi-final first leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium, with kick off at 20:45 CEST.

While hosts City are making their bow in the last four of the continent's elite club competition, 10-time European champions Real travel to Manchester preparing for their 27th appearance at this stage of the tournament.

And with Madrid chasing 'La Undécima', boss Zinedine Zidane - who in his pre-match press conference likened the atmosphere in the visitors' dressing room to that of their Champions League-winning team of 2014 - is set to welcome Cristiano Ronaldo back from injury after he missed the weekend victory over Rayo Vallecano.

Zidane is also hopeful that striker Karim Benzema, who limped out of the triumph at Vallecas with a thigh issue, will be fit to face the Premier League side.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini, sacked by Real in 2010 after just one season in charge, will be out to put one over his former employers, who he described as "the biggest club in the world" ahead of today's match-up.

Key men Vincent Kompany and Kevin de Bruyne are in line to return to Pellegrini's team after being rested for the thumping of Stoke City on Saturday, but the Chilean - who is to be replaced by Pep Guardiola next term - will be without Yaya Touré for the opening leg, after the Ivorian was ruled out with a knock picked up against the Potters.

The clubs' only previous meetings came in the group stages of the 2012-13 Champions League, with Madrid triumphing 3-2 in the Spanish capital before the sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad.
