Barcelona thrash Real Madrid at the Nou Camp Nou

Barcelona’s new stadium, the Nou Camp Nou, is the focus of an exhibition at the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, which opened yesterday. It shows the models of all the proposals for the new 105,000 seater stadium, expected to be finished by the end of summer 2022.

As I don’t have any idea about architecture my analysis is limited to saying that all the projects look fantastic, but if I had to focus on the details I’d tell future bidders that the best thing to have in their model are some trees (and it’s better if they have leaves; those without can look like they are straight out of a Tim Burton film) and another great touch to put in is a scoreboard inside the mini version of the Camp Nou, one which shows Real Madrid getting a thrashing at the hands of Barcelona.

Another 5-0 for Barcelona

Just such a detail can be seen in the proposal from Batlie i Roig with HKS and COX where Barcelona are thumping Real Madrid 5-0, with both the scorers and times of the goals noted. BAAS were somewhat more modest: just a 2-1 win for Barça. Ricardo Bofill meanwhile couldn’t resist another manita (little hand, all five fingers) for Barcelona against their eternal rivals.

Curiously though the winners, Nikken Sekkei + Pascual i Ausió Arquitectes team, didn’t even allow Real Madrid into the stadium… their model of the winning bid shows Barcelona playing… Barcelona.
