Dani Alves has a smash hit with the same song every summer
Dani Alves is like Georgie Dann (the French-born singer who made it big in Spain), he appears every summer with the same broken record. Maybe it’s the Barcelona defender's obvious love of partying that’s led him to sing the same song over and over again every time the weather turns fine. Like good old Georgie does, Dani basically plays the same song. The rhythm, the words and the accompanying dance moves might be a bit different, but in reality it’s the same tune every year.
Successful formula for Alves and Georgie Dann
Both formulas are winners with the crowds, who buy it every year. And both Georgie and Alves are hugely popular, as well as being multimillionaires.
With Dani Alves, who is unpredictable out on the pitch, two things are certain: one is his professionalism, which means he can finish every season in storming fashion, the other is the press-conference at the end of the season, where, in near histrionic fashion, he demands love and respect, challenges the press and club bosses and rails against campaigns against him. These two things don’t make him a better player, or a better person, but they do arouse the sympathy of the fans, who, forgetting his lacklustre mid-season performances, see him as irreplaceable on the pitch and in the press room.
One club man
Just like Gerrard, Alves is what the Brits call a One Club Man. A player who devotes his life exclusively to one entity. Alves does exactly that for Alves FC. He can’t be accused of having treated Barcelona worse than he did Sevilla, his former club.
2015 smash hit
In his smash hit from last summer Alves’ lyrics were quite clear: “I’m not giving away anything to renew. Nobody’s ever given me anything. They don’t appreciate me. I’m 200% committed to the team and 10% to the club”.
Alves' encore
Now it seems that he’s going to go off and play his summer song in Italy (where Georgie Dann is also very successful, by the way). However, from experience, one shouldn’t take anything for granted. Every year, after singing his song, the Barça board ask for an encore, and the Brazilian defender agrees to sing it. For a tidy sum, of course.
While we wait to see what happens with Alves, here's some Georgie Dann...
