Keylor Navas is to go under the surgeon’s scalpel on Thursday to treat the chronic achilles tendinopathy that left him ruled him out of the Copa America. The goalkeeper’s date with the doctor was confirmed by Real Madrid through its official website after the Costa Rican had travelled to Amsterdam for medical examinations.

Minimally invasive endoscopy
“Ater the tests carried out today on our player, Keylor Navas, in Amsterdam, the doctor Niek van Dijk under the supervision of the Real Madrid Sanitas medical services, has taken the decision to carry out a minimally invasive endoscopy on the left heel,” informed the club. “The operation will take place on 9th June in Madrid performed by doctors Van Dijk, Pedro Luis Ripoll and Mariano de Prado, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Sanitas medical services.”
Aggravation from World Cup 2014
The injury is one that Navas initially suffered at the World Cup 2014 in Brazil, however the tendinopathy has flared up over the past couple of months, causing him to miss the game against Valencia at the end of the LaLiga season after taking a knock in the Champions League semifinal against Manchester City.
Following the Champions league final the Real stopper underwent scans that confirmed the aggravation. The club's medical team sent the information to the player's international counterparts and the consensus was that treatment should start as soon as possible to avoid further complications – meaning he would not take part in Copa America.
Ready for pre-season
“If he continues, he could rupture the achilles tendon at any moment, which would be very serious,” Costa Rica’s doctor Alejandro Ramírez said last week. However, all going well with the operation, Navas will be ready to start preseason training with the rest of the Real Madrid squad on 15 July.
