Portugal and Republic among third-placed qualifiers

Portugal (3 points) and Ireland (4) went through as two of the four best third-placed teams, joining Slovakia (4) and Northern Ireland (3) in the next round ahead of Turkey and Albania (both 3).

Turkey and Albania's inferior goal difference to the Portuguese and Northern Irish meant they missed out.

How the group stage finished up:

Group winners: France, Wales, Germany, Croatia, Italy, Hungary.
