Wimbledon: Federer sweeps into fourth round
The world number three raced past Britain's Daniel Evans on Friday and will play Grigor Dimitrov or Steve Johnson for a last-eight spot.
Roger Federer racked up his 150th tour-level win on grass as the world number three crushed Britain's Daniel Evans 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in the Wimbledon third round on Friday.
Third seed Federer, bidding for a record eighth Wimbledon title, will face Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov or Steve Johnson of the United States for a place in the quarter-finals.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion has yet to drop a set in this year's tournament and he is comfortably through to the second week while his principle rival Novak Djokovic trails by two sets in his rain-delayed third round against Sam Querrey.
Federer, beaten in the last two Wimbledon finals by Djokovic, has been aided by a generous draw that pitted him against two lowly Brits in world number 772 Marcus Willis and then world number 91 Evans.
"I was extremely pleased with how I played. I didn't make the draw but it's been fun playing against Marcus and now Dan," said Federer, whose grass-court record stands at 150-22.
"It's always a pleasure playing against the local guys in this tournament especially.
"Andy [Murray] is far away in the draw so I won't play him for a while yet."
Federer, looking for an 11th Wimbledon final appearance, now has 305 Grand Slam singles match victories, which moves him within touching distance of Martina Navratilova's record of 306.
