Spanish Football Federation confirms Del Bosque departure

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed Vicente del Bosque's departure as Spain boss after eight years at the helm. 

Del Bosque had already announced in a radio interview on Thursday that he was to step down from the post in the wake of La Roja's last-16 exit from Euro 2016.

"The president of the RFEF, Ángel María Villar, held a meeting with Spain head coach Vicente del Bosque today in Madrid," read a statement issued by the Federation on Monday. 

"The coach informed the president that he did not wish to remain in charge of the national team."

The RFEF continued: "Ángel María Villar considers Vicente del Bosque to be part of the 'heritage of Spanish football' and has offered him the chance to continue in the Federation, which Del Bosque has agreed to.

"This offer will be firmed up in the coming weeks."

Appointed in July 2008 to replace Luis Aragonés, the 65-year-old won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 during his tenure.
