At the end of the game in which Portugal defeated Wales to reach the final of Euro 2016, Cristiano went over to Gareth Bale - in a similar fashion to that after the Croatia game with Modric - to console his club teammate.

Although the images gave the impression of a great gesture from the Real Madrid number seven, and were greeted with much positivity, the Mirror newspaper has revealed what words were spoken.

"I congratulated them [Wales] on their run," Cristiano said, after the embrace with Bale. "They had an amazing run. They were the shining star here, the revelation team."

He added, "I wished them good luck and as for the rest I would rather not say."

Maybe we'll find out the private part of the conversation another day...or maybe it's best left as just between the two players.
