Madeira Int. Airport to be to be named after Cristiano Ronaldo

Madeira International Airport is set to be renamed after the Portuguese island's most famous son: Cristiano Ronaldo.

The announcement was made this Friday by the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque. The decision is an acknowledgement to the services and high profile the Real Madrid player has brought to the region affirmed the 55 year old politician. The move to name the airport (formerly known as Santa Catarina Airport) was formalized after a meeting held on Thursday during a council meeting of the local Government.

Earlier today Cristiano attended the opening of the first in what is set to be a global chain of hotels in a venture between the football player and the Pestana Group. The Pestana CR7, which is located in the capital of Madeira (Funchal) was unveiled at a ceremony earlier today (the hotel has been operating since July 1st) and is expected to the be the first in a series of glamorous lifestyle hotels with future ventures planned for Lisbon, Madrid and New York.
