Real Madrid's James Rodríguez signalled his intentions to club boss Zinedine Zidane as he looked ahead to the coming campaign in a television interview aired in his native Colombia.

"I hope to be able to play more"

After an impressive opening year at Real, James often found himself on the bench during a disappointing season last term, and Zidane is said to have doubts over his first-team role.

However, he told Caracol TV: "I hope to be able to play more".

James has been heavily linked with a move this summer but, with Los Blancos understood to have rejected an 85-million-euro bid for the player, he explained to AS on Friday that he plans to remain at Real.

And he added on Caracol TV: "I want to have a good season and perform to a high level."

"I cried for five hours"

The 25-year-old also talked over the highlights and lowlights of his Colombia career so far, declaring: "My best goal was the one against Uruguay [at the 2014 World Cup].

"My worst moment was being knocked out by Brazil at the World Cup. I cried for five hours."

James is scheduled to join Madrid's pre-season preparations in Canada on Tuesday.
