Conor McGregor, UFC Featherweight Champion and a close friend of Cristiano Ronaldo's (both sportsmen met up during their holidays last month, following Euro2016), revealed in a promotional event on Saturday that the Portuguese player has already renewed his contract with Real Madrid. When asked whether he might overtake Cristiano in the Forbes list of top-earning celebrities, McGregor said: "That'll be tough, he's just signed a new contract with Real Madrid but we'll see, maybe next year I'll have him!".
Cristiano's current contract will expire in 2018 and now all that remains is for the club to officially confirm the terms of the extension, which will keep him at the club until 2020 or 2021. Initially, it was planned to formally announce the new deal on 29 August, before the international break but seeing as Cristiano is unlikely to be called by Portugal for the friendly against Gibraltar, both parties agree that the contract extension should be announced before then - and in a similar way to Cristiano's last extension, with an event at the Bernabáu.
