Brazil: Marcelo and Casemiro

With new coach Tite handing Casemiro and Marcelo a more prominent role than ex-boss Dunga, the Real Madrid pair played the full 90 against Ecuador in Brazil's seventh World Cup 2018 qualifier. Colombia: James

Ahead of his side's trip to Brazil, James' goal set Los Cafeteros on their way to a 2-0 qualifying victory at home to Venezuela on Thursday - prompting legendary Colombian striker Faustino Asprilla to aim a pointed Twitter barb at Real coach Zinedine Zidane. The 25-year-old later missed a stoppage-time penalty.

Portugal: Pepe

Pepe started the European champions' 5-0 friendly win over Gibraltar in Oporto on Thursday - their first fixture since lifting a maiden continental crown - with the defender rounding off the scoring in the closing stages. They now meet Switzerland in Basel in their opening qualification match for Russia 2018 (Tuesday, 20:45).

The French begin their bid to make the World Cup with a trip to face Belarus in Borisov on Tuesday (20:45).

Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal and Álvaro Morata were all in Julen Lopetegui's maiden Spain line-up in a dominant 2-0 victory over Belgium in Brussels on Thursday, with Lucas Vázquez also featuring as a second-half substitute. Marco Asensio was not involved. Morata was forced off before the break with an injury, but could still make Spain's World Cup qualification opener at home to Liechtenstein on Monday (20:45).

Germany: Kroos

Having played no part in the Germans' 2-0 friendly win over Finland in Mönchengladbach in midweek, midfielder Toni Kroos was on the field from start to finish on Sunday evening as Joachim Löw's defending champions commenced their road to Russia with a comprehensive 3-0 beating of Norway in Oslo.
