Casemiro’s impressive start to the season
The Brazilian midfielder has picked up where he left off last year, leading the rankings with 20 interceptions in two league games.
Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has picked up where he left off last season. The ‘lungs’ of this Real Madrid side has been crucial to Madrid’s start to this campaign and his performances have seen him become one of the first names on Zinedine Zidane’s team sheet.
The Brazilian midfielder has made the most interceptions of any player in LaLiga this season, winning the ball back 20 times against Real Sociedad and Celta to become a crucial part of Los Blancos’ 100% record so far.
The Madrid midfielder’s numbers were also impressive last season, and since Zidane has taken over the club, the number 14 has averaged 6.3 interceptions per game. Yet this season he appears to have moved up a gear in reading and breaking down the play, intercepting 9 balls at Anoeta and 11 against Berizzo's side.
Moreover, his midfield prowess has been carried over to the national side, imposing himself in the middle of the park for Brazil’s games against Ecuador and Colombia.
