Simeone uncertain if squad is sufficient to withstand sanction

The Atlético coach says only results will determine if his squad is strong enough to withstand FIFA's two-wondow transfer ban

Simeone en rueda de prensa.

How do you view the sanction?

We continue to go by what the club has said and not much has changed from what was expected. Let’s concentrate on sport, on the Celta game.

Will this squad be sufficient for two consecutive windows?

Results are going to determine that. It’s difficult to give a decisive opinion. Squads are assessed at the end of the season. Last season was fantastic, a really high level. We hope that this year, which is what we’re focused on, the squad performs well.

Is there a lack of patience with Atlético’s start to the season?

The demands on us are just. It’s fair they criticise us when results aren’t as desired. We have to improve and look for alternatives to start winning again. We have a difficult match against a rival who always play with intensity and with good attacking options. We’ll need to work.

What do you think of Celta, despite losing Nolito?

What I think is that Celta have been successful in reinventing themselves continuously and that says a lot about their coach. I’m sure that they’ll compensate for Nolito’s exit, as they already did with Augusto. They’re a hard working team that don’t depend on one footballer. Talent makes you stronger of course but they’ve already shown that they’ve reinvented the team.

Is it an essential game?

It’s normal, every game is essential. In this case we’re looking for our first victory. There’s real pressure for both sides, neither of us have got a victory.
