Morocco football club Wydad Casablanca have sacked Welsh manager John Toshack after losing to Egypt's Zamalek 4-0 in the first leg of the African Champions League semi-final.
Wydad Casablanca took the decision after Friday's disastrous game in Alexandria, Egypt, saying the former Real Madrid and Wales manager's contract had been "terminated with immediate effect".

"We offered John Toshack's staff all the necessary financial, technical and logistical conditions in order to achieve a good result," the club said in a statement.

It said that Friday's failure showed "a real management problem .. and for that reason Wydad Casablanca decided to terminate the contract of John Toshack."

Wydad Casablanca also sacked goalkeeping coach Younes Koutaya and trainer Driss Ouajou.

Toshack, 67, a former Liverpool striker, took charge in January 2014 and delivered two top-notch finishes, ensuring a Champions League presence the following year.

But despite an impressive start in Group A, the team struggled and were defeated by five-times African champions Zamalek at Alexandria's 85,000-seat Borg El Arab Stadium.
