Mario Suárez: "There were a few things I didn't like about Simeone"
The Valencia midfielder, who contributed two goals in the weekend win over Sporting added: "Simeone is the best coach I have ever had".
Mario Suárez spoke to Cadena COPE radio after hitting a brace for Valencia in Sunday's win over Sporting de Gijón at El Molinón.But it appears not everyone was happy about it - least of all the player's father, a Sporting fan. With a smile, the midfielder related his dad's reaction: "For fuck's sake, you have never scored two goals in one game in your life and you do it today...".
The former Atlético player was asked about his relationship with Diego Simeone: "There were a few things about El Cholo which I didn't like, but then I'm sure there were things he didn't like about me. I have always said that he is the best coach I have ever had; I learned a lot from him and all of my memories are good ones. When I signed for Valencia Simeone sent me a message to congratulate me and so everything's fine”.
Suárez revealed that it was Atlético's technical department which put tne brakes on him leaving during his time at the Calderón. "The point came when I decided I wanted to leave but they wouldn't let me. When I was getting regular games I got called up by Spain and I that was something which I obviously wanted to give some continuity to - the kind of continuity I was getting at Atleti; but Simeone wouldn't let me go. I could have joined Inter, but El Cholo wouldn't let me, he played me in the next game and after that I went a while without getting a game. Now I am getting regular run-outs at Valencia to have a chance of showing the player I am".
Great to be back
The midfielder, who is on loan at Valencia from Watford, added: "I'd like to stay here for a few more years. I decided that [Watford and Fiorentina] wasn't for me and that's why I came home to Spain, to the best league in the world”.
