The police and Legia ultras clashed outside the Bernabéu prior to Tuesday evening's Champions League match at the Bernabéu against Real Madrid.

Violent disturbances at the Bernabéu

As had been feared there were disturbances outside the Santiago Bernabéu stadium ahead of the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Legia Warsaw, when police clashed with visiting ultra groups, in Calle Rafael Salgado, leaving several injured. 

Mounted police charged at the Legia fans, and fired rubber bullets to calm a situation that was escalating rapidly, with Legia fans attacking police, and the police responding in kind. According to Europa Press there were seven injuries requiring medical treatment: five Legia fans and two police officers. None of the injured required hospital treatment.

The security forces had anticipated trouble from the feared Legia ultras, with a huge security presence being put in place at the Santiago Bernabéu, with more than 1,500 police officers and 700 private security guards. 

Arrests in the centre of Madrid

Earlier in the day three Polish fans were arrested in the centre of Madrid after allegedly attacking a waitress in a bar and stealing a mobile phone.
