Zidane delighted with result: "Ronaldo played phenomenally"
Real Madrid coach Zidane was content after beating Legia Warsaw 5-1 in Tuesday's Champions League Group F match.
Zidane gave a brief interview after his Real Madrid side ran out 5-1 winners over Polish side Legia Warsaw at the Bernabéu in their Group F Champions League match, a win that puts them joint top of the group on points with Borussia Dortmund (who beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1 away).
Zidane happy with Real Madrid win
Zidane admitted he was "happy with the result, the goals, with the way the game went". Though he admitted, after a game in which Real Madrid struggled to control the play despite the healthy score-line, that "things can be improved". "Our approach was to attack, we took risks and gave our opponents chances", said Zidane. The main thing for Zidane however is "winning and picking up points, which we've done".
Asked about Isco's absence from the side, after his solid performance in the 6-1 win away to Betis at the weekend, Zidane answered with a non-answer: "James played, as did Asensio". True, but hardly enlightening.
Zidane: "Cristiano played phenomenally"
One of the talking points of the night was Cristiano Ronaldo's failure to take advantage of the porous Legia defence and get to 100 Champions League goals (he's on 98 as it stands). The Portuguese striker looked out of sorts and frustrated as he missed several easy chances. But Zidane was having none of it: "He played phenomenally, giving the ball to others, he had chances but didn't score, but in the game in four days time there's no doubt he'll score".
Group F: two teams in it
As to the situation in Group F, Zidane appears convinced Real Madrid are within reach of ensuring qualification to the knock out stages, claiming "it looks like there are two teams in it", in reference to Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund both being four points ahead of Sporting Lisbon after three matches.
