Manchester City player mocks Messi

A Manchester City player mocked and insulted Leo Messi just after the final whistle in Barcelona's 3-1 defeat at the Etihad in the Group C Champions League match. And according to Spanish radio show El Larguero, Messi reacted furiously, chasing his tormentor into the tunnel while shouting: "Idiot, idiot, come here!"

Messi goes to City dressing room door

The City player didn't heed Messi's words however and headed off to the dressing room, with the Argentine in hot pursuit, accompanied by Carlos Naval, Barça's club delegate. The two ended up standing outside the Manchester City dressing room door with Naval shouting "show your face!" to the culprit inside, who continued to mock Messi.

Agüero acts as peacemaker

The situation was resolved by Kun Agüero however, who came out to act as peacemaker, and calmed Messi down.

Agüero said afterwards that it was a heat of the moment incident, and played the incident down as nothing more than a storm in a teacup.

"Nothing, nothing happened. I didn't hear it properly. I saw Leo say something, but he didn't say anything to me, and afterwards we talked about other stuff". Agüero also explained: "'I saw him there, he was feeling bad. I know him well enough to know when he's bad, when he's good. But when you lose, nobody's good.

New updates, Arteta implicated

However, on Wednesday evening Spanish broadcaster La Sexta reported that it was Guardiola's assistant and former blaugrana Mikel Arteta who snarled at Messi on the way to the changing rooms.

City beat Barcelona 3-1

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City came back from a first half Messi goal to beat Barça 3-1, with a second half of riotous, whirlwind football. Gundogan had levelled before the break when City took full advantage of a Sergi Roberto mishap in defence, and a De Bruyne free-kick and a second from Gundogan in the second 45 saw Pep finally beat his old club, and move to within two points of Barcelona at the top of Group C.
