ATLÉTICO MADRID

Atlético the only side in the Champions League with 100% record

After Barcelona and Leicester both failed to win this week, Diego Simeone's side are now the only team in the Champions League to have won all four of their group games so far.

Atlético Madrid are flying high in Group D of the Champions League with 12 points from 12 games and have already qualified for the last 16 along with Bayern Munich, who they play on 6 December to decide top spot. However, they are not only the best team in their group at the moment, but also the best team in the whole competition.

100% record

Indeed Atletico are now the only team left in the Champions League with a 100% record having won all four of their games so far after Barcelona and Leicester failed to win this week.

A large part of this achievement can be attributed to Atleti’s solid defence: they’ve only conceded one goal in the four matches they’ve played, and it was only a glaring error that handed Rostov the honour of being the sole side to score against them on Tuesday.

Simeone’s men do not have the best defensive record in the competition, however. That title belongs to Leicester and Sevilla, who have impressively both yet to let a single goal in. To put that into perspective, Real Madrid have conceded seven.

5 goals in 4 games

When it comes to attacking, meanwhile, Atletico have not been quite as formidable: they’ve scored just five in four games. It was in fact only down to Antoine Griezmann’s last minute strike against Rostov that Los Rojiblancos can count on a slightly better ratio than one goal per game. This tally doesn’t compare as favourably to some of the Champions League’s other top sides: Barcelona have scored 14, followed by Arsenal (12), Real Madrid (12), Dortmund (11), Bayern (11), City (10) and PSG (9).
