Kevin Gamerio remained in an upbeat mood as he talked to RTL following Atlético Madrid’s 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad on Saturday.

After struggling to make an immediate impression since arriving from Sevilla in the summer, the Frenchman has now begun to settle at the Vicente Calderón and forms an important part of Diego Simeone’s side.

"I'm more attuned to the counterattack"

“Atlético’s style is ideal for my way of playing,” said the striker. “I found it difficult in preseason, especially the physical side. But now I’m now more attuned to the counterattack as well as to defending. I’m getting used to it.”

Gameiro also had words of praise for coach Simeone. “He always wants to win and that’s evident in games and in training. That elevates you to a higher level,” assured the Frenchman, who added he sees certain parallels between 'Cholo' and his former manager at Sevilla, Unai Emery (now at PSG).

Griezmann is Atleti's "leader"

On his compatriot and Atletico strike partner Antoine Greizmann, meanwhile, Gameiro was also complimentary. “We enjoy playing together. He’s the leader, but one of those leaders who helps the team. It’s a pleasure to play with him, because he rolls up his sleeves and sets an example. He’s the favourite of the Atleti fans.”
