Gary Neville leaves out Zlatan, Rooney and Mata from best XI

The Man Utd legend, football pundit and recent manager of Valencia revealed his preferred starting line-up for the club and it doesn't match what we've seen from José Mourinho.

Youth to start, but great back-up

Speaking to the Oxford Union students on Monday, Gary Neville revealed who he thought should make up the starting XI for his old club Manchester United. Left on the bench would be big names such as Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Red Devils legend said that he'd put youngster Marcus Rashford up front, going for youth over experience, but was quick to joke, "It would be a great subs bench"

An alternative view on the summer signings

Although the current manager at Old Trafford, José Mourinho, has tried out various members of his squad - and it's not entirely clear if he himself knows the strongest combination - a player that the long-serving right-back would give much more playing time to would be 42 million euro summer signing, Mkhitaryan. The Armenian has only played 133 minutes so far this campaign but would start in a Neville side, ahead of Spanish playmaker Juan Mata.

The full team picked by Gary Neville would be: De Gea – Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Blind – Carrick, Herrera, Pogba – Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Martial.
