Chapecoense tragedy: Brazilian clubs propose support measures

In the wake of Monday's crash, clubs in Brazil have offered free loan deals and have called for Chapecoense to be exempted from relegation.

Clubs in Brazil have urged the country's football federation to approve a series of measures in support of Chapecoense following Monday night's air disaster.

71 of 77 people on board died after the aeroplane carrying the Brazilian team to Colombia crashed on its approach to the city of Medellin.

Chapecoense were travelling to play Colombian outfit Atlético Nacional in the first leg of the final of the 2016 Copa Sudamericana.

Emergency proposals in support of Chapecoense

In a joint statement issued in the wake of the tragedy, teams including Sao Paulo, Corinthians, Santos and Palmeiras have proposed the following emergency steps:

1. Free-of-charge loan deals for the 2017 season to enable Chapecoense to rebuild their squad

2. Exemption of Chapecoense from relegation from Brazil's Série A for the next three seasons

The measures put to the Confederaçao Brasileira de Futebol are aimed at "rebuilding the club and part of Brazilian football which was lost today", read the statement.

Meanwhile, Chapecoense's Copa Sudamericana opponents have formally requested that the team be named winners of the competition.
