Las Palmas eyeing loan deals for Jesé, Gabigol and Wakaso

Unión Deportiva Las Palmas are looking to bolster their squad for a challenge for the European places and are considering some eye-catching loan moves in the January window.

Jesé (PSG)

Former Real Madrid forward Jesé, a native of Gran Canaria who moved to PSG last summer, is top of Las Palmas coach Quique Setién’s shopping list. The 23-year-old has failed to make any impact in Paris and has started just one game in all competitions under Unai Emery. Las Palmas therefore feel there is a good chance of securing a loan deal until the end of the season but there are complications, not least in terms of Jesé’s hefty salary. However, the player and his advisers may be open to a move to reignite a career that has stagnated considerably since his breakthrough at Real Madrid in 2013-14.

Gabigol (Inter Milan)

Another name that has been touted by the Italian press is that of Gabriel “Gabigol” Barbosa, the 19-year-old Brazil striker who moved from Santos to Inter last summer. Like Jesé, Gabigol has been overlooked this season by Stefano Pioli and has played just 16 minutes for his new club, leading to the likelihood of a loan move in January. While the player favours a return to Brazil, Inter are more interested in a move to a European club and there will be no shortage of takers in Serie A for the striker’s services, although Las Palmas are hopeful of tempting him to the Canaries.

Mubarak Wakaso (Panathinaikos)

The final name on the list is well-known to the club: Mubarak Wakaso. The Ghana international spent last season on loan at Las Palmas from Rubin Kazan and is desperate for a return after signing for Panathinaikos last summer, where he has failed to settle as he did in Gran Canaria. Wakaso is also a great friend of Las Palmas striker Kevin Prince-Boateng and was instrumental in the former Milan player’s arrival at the club. Las Palmas are negotiating with the Greek side to organise a six-month loan.
