Sevilla's sporting achievements being tainted by their ultras

14 detained

Fourteen Sevilla ultras were arrested yesterday for their involvement in an attack on a bar where Juventus fans were dining last month ahead of the Champions League tie between both clubs at the Sanchez Pizjuan. All involved with Sevilla football club and club president José Castro are aware that the club has an issue with problematic ultras and it's nothing new either.

Chapters of trouble

Just before the Europa League final got underway in Basel last May between Liverpool and the LaLiga side, hard core fans representing both teams could been seen on TV screens around the world exchanging punches behind one of the goals due to poor segregation at the stadium. Sevilla ultras were also involved in incidents with their counterparts from Dynamo Zagreb on November 1st.. Back in 2015 in Manchester, Sevilla ultras were attacked by Polish hooligans as pay-back for an incident dating back to a 2013 Europa League tie when Ekstraklasa outfit Slask Wroclaw visited the Sanchez Pizjuan and Polish ultras were attacked.

Gol norte

Sevilla are adamant they are doing all they can to keep troublemakers out of the stadium and will issue a life ban for all season ticket holders among the 14 detainees. This is not enough. Spanish football is doing it's best to eradicate violence from the game and time after time chants from the North Stand at the Sanchez Pizjuan are denounced by LaLiga, it's true that on many occasions these chants are whistled out by other areas of the stadium. Fans who don't want to behave within the established rules should be ejected from stadia. Sevilla's fantastic run is being tainted by the antics of this minority of ultras and it really needs to be properly addressed.
