Report: Pepe to join Pellegrini at Hebei on €15m a year deal
Spanish radio station Cope reported that the Portugal defender will turn down a one-year deal at the Bernabéu and seek his fortune in China.
Pepe appears to be ready to turn down a contract offer to extend his Real Madrid career in favour of a move to the Chinese Super League to link up with old boss Manuel Pellegrini.
China Fortune for Pepe
Hebei China Fortune, who are managed by the former Real, Villarreal and Manchester City coach, have slapped an offer of 15 million euros a season on the table for the veteran centre half, which is triple the amount he earns at the Bernabéu.
Pepe, who will be 34 next month, has a contract running until June 2017 and has been free since the turn of the year to negotiate with other clubs. Real have offered a one-year extension to his current deal but the player was holding out for two further seasons. Hebei appear to be in pole position to take advantage of the impasse and can outgun 99 percent of other clubs with their financial offer.
Injury-hit season at Real
Pepe is currently injured and has appeared only sporadically for the side this season, missing the Club World Cup with injury and playing just 924 minutes over 11 games.
