Villarreal winger Alfonso Pedraza is set to join Championship club Leeds United on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer.
Pedraza is currently on loan at Segunda side Lugo, but it is believed Villarreal will pay €300,000 to break that contract early in order to facilitate the 20-year old’s move to England.
The Spain under-21 international will sign a temporary deal with Leeds until the end of this season, with the Yorkshire club having a purchase option of around €10 million euros in the event of promotion to the Premier League. If Leeds do not go up, however, Pedraza will return to Villarreal in the summer.
Six goals, eight assists for Lugo
After making 22 appearances for Lugo in the Spanish 2nd division, Pedraza played his last game for the Galician outfit on Sunday in the 1-1 draw at Zaragoza.
Pedraza has attracted the interest of a host of teams after his great start to the current campaign, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. Sporting de Gijón were close to securing his signature during the January transfer window, but in the end Leeds are the side who’ll acquire the services of the promising young talent.
Pedraza was a key piece in the European Championship winning Spain under-19 side in 2015 and will see his loan spell at Leeds as a further opportunity to impress before the under-21 Euro 2017 tournament in June.
