Diego Pavia cut by the Ravens: What’s next for the former Vanderbilt quarterback?
Diego Pavia was one of the names of the NFL Draft this spring. He wasn’t drafted in April, and Baltimore signed him this summer, but he was cut on Friday.
The dream is over, at least for the moment. Diego Pavia has been wavied by the Baltimore Ravens, and the former Vanderbilt quarterback will have to look for employment elsewhere, whether that means in or out of the NFL.
Pavia cut before training camp
After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Ravens signed the rookie quarterback this summer. He was one of the more recognizable names on the draft board back in April, but after seven rounds the Vandy QB didn’t hear his name called, and waited for a team to take a chance on him as an undrafted free agent.
In his second year as Vanderbilt’s quarterback, he threw for over 3,500 yards, 29 touchdowns and just eight interceptions as the Commodores had their first 10 win season in school history. The electric college QB also rushed for over 800 yards and 10 touchdowns, which made him one of the most entertaining dual threat signal callers in the country last year.
He was nominated for the Heisman Trophy and made the trip to New York but lost out to national champion quarterback, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza. Heading into the draft, there was plenty of doubt surrounding the future of Pavia because of his metrics. He was measured as 5-9 7/8 inches at the Senior Bowl which would have made him one of the NFL’s shortest quarterbacks.
What’s next for Pavia?
The former Commodore was a fierce competitor and a spark plug for the Vandy offense, but there were questions that didn’t just concern his height coming into the selection show. After finishing second in the Heisman voting, he launched an attack at the voters of college football’s most prestigious individual trophy which he later apologized for.
The Ravens haven’t even opened up training camp yet, but they made the decision on the Heisman Trophy runner-up. Baltimore are in their first year of the post John Harbaugh era, and Jesse Mitner is now getting ready for his first preseason as an NFL head coach.
After a couple years of disappointing early exits in the playoffs, the Ravens moved on from Harbaugh and brought in Minter hoping that he can take this “win now” roster to the promise land. Meanwhile Pavia’s future is up in the air. He will have to sit back and wait for a team to come calling to give him a chance in the preseason, he might have to continue his football career in the UFL or CFL.
