Godín back from injury
There was some good news for Diego Simeone on Thursday - while the squad returned to the training ground after Tuesday's 2-4 win over Bayer Leverkusen, Diego Godín completed the full session at the same pace as his team mates. It means that the Uruguayan central defender is available and could enter the starting line-up when Barcelona visit the Calderón on Sunday. Godín is now well over the adductor problems which have kept him sidelined for the past fortnight.
Preparing for Barça
Today's session was divided into three phases: an intensive round of circuit training to start; followed by defensive drills with a focus on learning from the mistakes made in Bayer Leverkusen's first goal on Tuesday; and to end, a mini-matchon a reduced pitch in which players had to shoot almost as soon as they received the ball.
Oblak to return against Barcelona
Jan Oblak will almost certainly reclaim his place in the side on Sunday and few changes are expected from the team who played midweek in Germany. The only doubt is who will partner Godín in central defence - today, Simeone tried out Giménez then Savic.
The rest of the team was as expected: Koke and Gabi forming the midfield pivot, Saúl out wide on the right, Carrasco on the opposite flank with Gameiro and Griezmann up front. Curiously, at the end of the session, Gameiro and Griezmann stayed behind to put in some penalty practice with Moreira in goal. Gameiro broke Atlético's poor recent form from 11 metres in the midweek game against Leverkusen.
