NBA star and San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker has been named for the fourth consecutive year as France’s highest-paid sportsman, earning an estimated annual income of 19.6 million euros, ahead of footballers Paul Pogba (Manchester United) and Karim Benzema (Real Madrid).
Pobga predicted to top 2017 rich list
However, according to the ranking published by L'Equipe, Parker, 34, is close to losing his first place in the 2017 list, when it is predicted that Pogba – for whom United paid Juventus a record €110 million last summer – will take home a €25 million fortune in salary and advertising contracts.
The Manchester United midfielder, who turns 24 in March, brought in €18 million in 2016, €8.8 million more than the previous year, while Benzema dropped from second place in 2015 to the third in 2016 (€15.6) – a decline attributed to the fact that his public image was damaged by his imputation in the blackmail case of his former France teammate, Mathieu Valbuena.
Griezmann enters Top 10
In the top 50 of the highest paid, 42 are football players, seven are basketball players and one is from the world of motorsport; rally driver Sébastien Ogier.
Fourth place in the ranking is shared by basketball player Nicolas Batum (Charlotte Hornets) and Bayern Munich footballer Franck Ribéry, both with revenues of €14 million per year.
Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, meanwhile, broke into the top 10 in 2016, landing in seventh place with an income of €12.3m.
