Deportivo confirm Pepe Mel as new head coach
The Madrid born manager will oversee the Galician side through to June 30 with a one year extension as an option in his contract.

Deportivo la Coruña have confirmed that Pepe Mel will oversee the Galician side for the remainder of the 2016/17 season. The Madrid born coach will be presented to the media on Tuesday after signing a deal that keeps him at Riazor until the end of the current campaign with an option to remain for a further season dependent on his performance.

Mel will be joined by a coaching staff of Roberto Ríos (second coach), David Gómez (physical coach) and match analyst José Gordillo.

Mainiatin top flight status
Pepe Mel began life as a coach with Murcia and Tenerife and has also spent time on the bench with Getafe, Alavés and Rayo Vallecano. The 54 year old also had a brief spell with English Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion but his main successes as a coach have been with Real Betis where he secured two promotions for "Los Verdiblancos" in 2010 and 2015 along with a Europa League place for the Sevilla based side .
