Rakitic's difficult season
It hasn't been an easy few months for Rakitic, who enjoyed a blistering start before fading then disappearing completely from Luis Enrique's starting XI following December's Clásico. The Croatian was far from his best level and his sporadic appearances prompted rumours that he might leave Barça in thye summer. Since then, he has worked on his fitness and the results have been clear to see in his recent games. The player denied the possibility of him joining Manchester City during the winter transfer window, instead, stating that his intention was to renew with Barcelona. Luis Enrique's announcement that he will not be continuing at Camp Nou next season has not affected Rakitic's decision or negociations which dragged on for several months until Barça decided to issue a statement this evening.
